About Mowbray Lodge

We are a diverse Lodge with members from all walks of life and all ages. The breadth of youth, experience and cultures makes for a vibrant, fulfilling, and happy experience. We have a strong core of Senior Past Masters and senior members who proactively support our newer members who are keen to learn. We pride ourselves on our ritual, delivered with skill, to make for an interesting and fulfilling evening.
We have been members of the Universities Scheme since 2008, opening Freemasonry to Sunderland University, and we have had interest from students, staff, and alumni since then. Former students and staff have now become senior members within the Lodge, and we look forward to supporting them and watching them grow. Our membership does not however, only come from the Universities Scheme and we welcome all enquiries.
You will find us committed to ensuring that the membership can develop as Masons, in whatever way they choose, facilitated by strong friendships, pride in our reputation and our commitment to Freemasonry.

Mowbray Lodge Summer Ball 2025

A Night to Remember

On Saturday 2nd August 2025, Mowbray Lodge No. 5373 hosted its much-anticipated Summer Ball at the elegant Ramside Hall Hotel in Durham. Members, families, and friends came together in the Bishops Suite for what proved to be a truly memorable evening filled with friendship, fine dining, music, and charitable giving.

Guests began arriving from 6:15pm and were greeted with a sparkling glass of bubbly, setting the tone for an evening of celebration and fellowship. Old friends embraced, new connections were made, and there was a real sense of excitement in the air as the ballroom began to fill.

Shortly afterwards everyone was seated for a sumptuous three-course meal, beautifully prepared by the Ramside’s chefs. With options ranging from classic roast chicken to lamb rump Provencal, and delicious vegetarian choices, the menu offered something for everyone. Desserts such as sticky toffee pudding and strawberry & white chocolate cheesecake provided the perfect sweet finish.

Later the atmosphere lifted even further with live entertainment from the Lewis Curry Quartet. Their set perfectly balanced sophistication and energy, creating the ideal soundtrack to a summer celebration. Afterwards, the night transformed into a lively party as the DJ took over, ensuring the dancefloor stayed full well into the evening.

One of the highlights of the night was our grand charity raffle and prize draw. Thanks to the generosity of our members, guests, and local supporters, the raffle featured some truly fantastic prizes – including a luxurious overnight spa stay at Ramside Hall. The draw was met with laughter, cheers, and plenty of excitement, and most importantly, it helped us raise an impressive £1,500 for Masonic charities.

Fellowship at its Best

The Summer Ball wasn’t just about the food, music, or even the fundraising – it was about what truly defines Freemasonry: friendship, integrity, and community. The Bishops Suite was filled with joy, conversation, and laughter as Brethren, families, and friends came together to celebrate both tradition and togetherness.

On behalf of Mowbray Lodge, we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended, contributed prizes, purchased raffle tickets, and helped make the event such a success. Special thanks also go to Stan Fitches and Kenneth Kent for their guidance and support, to the Lewis Curry Quartet for their outstanding performance and to the team at Ramside Hall for their excellent hospitality.

The Summer Ball has once again shown the strength of our lodge community and the positive impact we can have when we come together. We are proud to continue supporting worthy causes while enjoying the fellowship that makes Freemasonry so special. Until next time!
