Lodge celebrates a milestone Installation with distinguished guests and plenty of good cheer

The Lodge room at Burdon Road, Sunderland, was buzzing with excitement recently as members and guests gathered for a very special Installation meeting. Fireworks were definitely in the air on the 5th November 2025 as we all gathered for a very special occasion. 

We were absolutely delighted to welcome some very distinguished visitors, including RWBro Arthur Steven Varley, Assistant Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England, and RWBro John David Watts, Provincial Grand Master for Durham. Their presence, along with the many visiting Brethren from across the country, made the evening even more special. A very humbling expreience for everyone within Mowbray Lodge.

In a ceremony full of warmth and tradition, good humour and the occasional faux pax by the Installing Master, Rak Bhalla was duly installed into the Worshipful Master’s Chair for the 4th time, an honour richly deserved. He has served the Lodge for around twenty years as Assistant Director of Ceremonies and then ultimately Director of Ceremonies, his leadership continues to take Mowbray Lodge to new heights.

Another of the evening’s highlights came when the Immediate Past Master, Martin Lawson was installed as Secretary, following on from Bob Summerson, who stepped down after nine years of first class dedicated service in that role. His commitment and hard work for nearly a decade were warmly acknowledged by all present, but retirement won't be quiet as he was appointed as Director of Ceremonies!

After the formalities, the festive board was filled with laughter, friendship, and plenty of toasts, the perfect way to round off a night that will long be remembered by all who attended.
